NEW YORK (AP) The Los Angeles Chargers placed seven players in the Pro Bowl, including safety Derwin James, one of six rookies across the league to make the game.

James, a first-round draft choice, will be joined on the AFC squad by veteran quarterback Philip Rivers, wide receiver Keenan Allen, running back Melvin Gordon, defensive end Melvin Ingram, center Mike Pouncey and special-teamer Adrian Phillips for the game, which will be played Jan. 27 in Orlando. James and Phillips are the only starters, though.

Rivers is a backup to Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes, one of 29 first-time Pro Bowlers. That, of course, includes all the rookies: James, Giants running back Saquon Barkley, Seahawks punter Michael Dickson, Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay, Indianapolis guard Quenton Nelson and Cleveland cornerback Denzel Wads. Lindsay is an undrafted player.

Rivera unsure if he'll shut down Newton

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Panthers coach Ron Rivera hasn't ruled out shutting down quarterback Cam Newton for the season because of a sore right throwing shoulder.

Rivera said Tuesday he plans to meet with Newton later in the week and figure out where he is "in terms of his physical state and mental state" before deciding if he will start Sunday against Atlanta.

Broncos' Lindsay makes Pro Bowl history

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) Snubbed from the combine and in the 2018 draft, Denver Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay is the first undrafted offensive player in NFL history to make the Pro Bowl as a rookie.

"I am so blessed ... It is a tremendous honor and I am so thankful to all of Broncos Country for supporting and believing in me this season," Lindsay wrote in his thank-you post on Instagram Tuesday after the league announced the roster for the all-star game next month in Orlando, Florida.

Chargers' Gordon likely to play Saturday

COSTA MESA, Calif. (AP) All indications point to Melvin Gordon returning to the Los Angeles Chargers backfield for Saturday's game against Baltimore.

The fourth-year running back was a full participant during Tuesday's practice. Gordon has missed the last three games after spraining the MCL in his right knee during the second half of the Chargers' Nov. 26 win against Arizona.

Redskins' Nicholson charged with assault

WASHINGTON (AP) Redskins safety Montae Nicholson was arrested early Tuesday morning and charged with assault and battery and being drunk in public stemming from a fight at a restaurant and retail complex near the team's practice facility in Ashburn, Virginia.

Loudoun County Sheriff's Office spokesman Kraig Troxell confirmed Nicholson's arrest. He says Tuesday afternoon the 23-year-old had been recently released on $2,500 bond.

Packers RB Jones done for rest of season

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones will miss the final two games of the season after being placed on injured reserve.

The team's leading rusher left the 24-17 loss to Chicago on Sunday in the first quarter with a knee injury. The defeat helped eliminate the Packers from playoff contention.

Rivera: My fate up to Panthers owner

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Ron Rivera says he wants to return to coach the Panthers next season. He is just not sure if he'll get that chance.

Carolina is in the midst of a colossal collapse, losing six straight games following a 6-2 start. Rivera addressed questions about his job security Tuesday, saying "I can't tell you. I have been through this (uncertainty) a couple of times during my first two seasons here, but at the end of the day it comes to one person - that's the only one that knows."
